Like many just-signed-up, brand new Vemma team members, Bill and Deon Gibson were not quite sure what to expect from the Silver Builder pack they had just ordered. After all, they had a budding fitness business to get off the ground. And adding another business to their lives was like having triplets after having twins.
But the Gibsons quickly realized that their order came with an unexpected benefit – backup and support from the Verve Monkeys Team. As owners of It Works Fitness in Murrells Inlet, they focused on getting new members to come into their facility. That’s where their enroller and Verve Monkeys team member Shane Steele sprung into action. In addition to his steady mentoring in the ways of Vemma, he also called on all Verve Monkeys team members to come and give the fitness center a try. And in wave of Vemma solidarity, they did. The boost in business solidified the already strong bond between the Gibsons and Vemma. As a sidenote, the Gibson team achieved the Bronze rank in only three days – something Shane Steele likes to brag about from time to time.
Today, Bill and Deon are beginning to enjoy the benefits of their partnership with Vemma. It Works Fitness is growing and Vemma along with it. The inside of the building is even beginning to sport the trademark Vemma silver and orange here and there. Both Gibsons are certified Tae Bo instructors and Kangoo Jumps instructors, making It Works Fitness a one-of-a-kind fitness facility along the Grand Strand. They are located at 3552 Old Kings Hwy in Murrells Inlet (from Hwy 17 South, turn right at the Home Depot, an immediate left on the frontage road going toward Meineke approximately 1/2 mile on the right (OLD KINGS PLAZA). Team VerveMonkeys made an appearance at a YMCA sponsored swim meet in Eden, NC, a small city just north of Greensboro and Winston-Salem.
The event was held November 14, and attracted approximately 12 swim teams from North Carolina and neighboring Virginia. Team VerveMonkeys member Mike Saless said his Vemma/Verve booth was visited by athletes ranging in ages from 6 to 18. Parents – lots of them – and grand-parents were also on hand to sample the entire Vemma/Verve product line.
When asked why he would travel to another state to attend an event, Saless explained that his booth was the only one there and that he was an obvious standout. “Don’t limit yourself, you can help a lot of people. Think outside the box,” said Saless. He also recalled the story of a swimmer who sampled three of the Vemma/Verve products. “He went on to win 6 out of 7 races,” he said.
It seemed like a natural fit to mix humans, horses and VerveMonkeys at the 28th Annual Jack Monroe Ride-A-Thon American Heart Association Beach Ride.
The five-day benefit event was held from October 28 to November 1 at Lakewood Camping Resort in Myrtle Beach. Team VerveMonkeys member Wendy Naramore anchored our presence there, flanked by event regulars Mike Saless, Dorian Hooks and Butch Miller to name a few. Other regulars making an appearance were some show stopping equine friends – some 1200 horses registered – getting their fill of beach water and sand. With horses come riders, many who made a pit stop at the Vemma show booth. There, the VerveMonkeys team went to work, sharing the value of health, wellness and prevention. And through the sharing of testimonials, sampling and genuine, honest dialogue, we were able to welcome new team members into the Vemma organization. It is hard to quantify the value of the exposure this event has brought the team – whether from business or health benefit perspectives. “The fellowship from the team warms my heart”, said Dorian Hooks.

The Queen of Fruit
Mangosteen is the latest superfruit believed to prevent
disease and improve quality of life
Source: Men’s Health Magazine ~ By: Abby Lerner
Even if you’re not up to speed with the latest nutritional research, mangosteen may sound familiar. It’s one of those words you think you know—at least, you recognize the mango part—but this superfruit is actually an entirely different plant from the mango, and it has a lot more power hiding behind its generic-sounding label.
A mangosteen is a rare, tangerine-sized, purple fruit that grows primarily in tropical Southeast Asia. Previously an illegal import into North America because of the possible transport of insects, mangosteen recently debuted in the United States and became the favorite ingredient in liquid supplements, such as Xango juice and Vemma, promising to improve heart and digestive health, boost energy, and enhance immune response.
The Superior Superfruit
Like all others worthy of the title, mangosteen satisfies four prerequisites of a superfruit: It’s appealing in taste, fragrance and visually; it’s rich in nutrients; it’s high in antioxidants; and it has the potential to lower risk of disease for people.
So why is mangosteen better than other antioxidant-rich foods? The secret is in the skin. The outer layer of a mangosteen has the highest concentration of a class of plant nutrients called xanthones that have extremely powerful antioxidant properties. “Research on xanthones has found them to have potent anti-tumor activity,” says Dr. Ray Sahelian, M.D. Promoters of mangosteen products also say xanthones have an ability to lower cholesterol, reduce inflammation and muscle pain, improve skin conditions and allergies, and boost the immune system. “Advocates base their claims on lab studies, so it’s still not perfectly clear how [xanthones] treat human medical conditions,” Sahelian says. “Bottom line: It’s a safe supplement, a good source of antioxidants, and has anti-cancer potential.”
Multiple Ways It Helps
Mangosteen works to prevent health problems by protecting the body from infection, says Visha Johnston, a former nurse and representative for Health and Wellness Consulting. “It dramatically boosted my energy,” she said. “I would recommend it to anyone.”
Each of the 43 xanthones in a mangosteen fruit targets a specific area of the body. One may act as an antioxidant, another as an anti-inflammatory, and a third as an anti-tumor agent. Some people call them “adaptagens” for their ability to transform and benefit the body in different areas.
